Tirzepatide Injections

What are Tirzepatide Injections?

Tirzepatide (brand name Mounjaro) is an injectable medication that helps with weight loss by decreasing food intake and slowing down how fast food travels through your digestive tract (called gastric emptying). This may help you to feel fuller for a longer period of time and reduce how much food you eat. Studies show this action may occur in the brain.

Frequently asked questions

Tirzepatide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist. It works by acting like GLP-1 and GIP, 2 hormones released by your gut after you eat to help you control blood sugar. These hormones tell your body to release more insulin, release less sugar, and slow down digestion. All of these actions help lower blood sugar levels.

Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) is a hormone that regulates blood sugar by stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion. Insulin is a hormone that promotes sugar uptake by the cells, stores sugar as glycogen, promotes the building of fat, and signals the body to build skeletal muscle. In addition, GLP-1 inhibits glucagon release (which slows down the release of sugar into the blood so that you burn more fat), slows down gastric emptying (makes you feel full), and lowers the desire for food intake (decreases your appetite).

No, Tirzepatide is NOT a stimulant. While other weight loss medications, like phentermine, have stimulating effects that help curb your appetite, Tirzepatide works differently.

No. Tirzepatide is currently not covered by most insurance for people who are not type 2 diabetics. You CAN, however get this medication as part of our Tirzepatide Weight Loss Plan.

Once enrolled in the plan and evaluated by our nurse practitioner, the medication and the supplies will be shipped straight to your home or office. The price of the medication, and any supplies needed, is included in the plan.

Tirzepatide is a weekly injection in the abdomen.

The main listed side effects are nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, indigestion, and stomach (abdominal) pain.

A recent trial reported in the New England Journal of Medicine studied Tirzepatide for the treatment of obesity or excess weight among adults without diabetes. Participants experienced substantial and sustained weight loss with a once a week injection of Tirzepatide. In the study group, 85% to 91% of participants reduced their weight by 5% or more compared with only 35% losing weight in the placebo group. Half of the 10-mg Tirzepatide group and 57% of the 15-mg group reduced their body weight by 20% or more. The Tirzepatide group also had improved cardiovascular and metabolic measures.

Based on clinical trials, patients using Tirzepatide may experience:

  • Substantial A1C reductions
  • Increased weight loss
  • Improvements in cardiometabolic measures
  • Improved triglycerides levels
  • Reduced appetite
  • Decreased blood pressure
  • Improved insulin sensitivity

*While no magic weight loss pill currently exists, there ARE medications that can help. They must, however, be used in combination with diet and exercise to get the most benefit and set you up for long-term results.
